Cassowary Falls tours operate in most weather conditions, including rain, which is a vital part of the Daintree Rainforest environment. In fact, some of our most exciting tours happen in the rain adding to the Daintree experience, and guests should expect to get splashed during creek crossings. Please dress for warm, wet conditions. This is tropical rain, so heavy jackets are not required and can be uncomfortable.

In the event that a tour must be cancelled for safety reasons, such as heavy rain, localised flooding, strong winds, or storms, guests who booked directly with us will be offered a full refund or the option to rebook for another date, subject to availability. If you do not / have not heard from us, then your tour will be running as planned.

We do not offer refunds for wet weather if you choose not to participate and the tour is operating as scheduled.

Where does the Cassowary Falls tour depart from?

The tour departs from the ‘farm gate’ at the Gateway to Cassowary Falls property, which is located at 263 Upper Daintree Road, Upper Daintree. It’s a 4km and/or a 6 minute drive from Daintree Village. Drive time from Port Douglas to Daintree Village is 50 minutes or 1 hour and 45 minutes from Cairns. Please allow an extra 10 minutes for road works and stoppages, when traveling from Cairns and Port Douglas. No 4WD needed. Plenty of parking on site.

Please note Cassowary Falls is located on a private property. Access is only available on a guided tour. The falls are not open to the general public due to farm biosecurity concerns and individual safety reasons.

The Cassowary Falls tour takes approximately 2.5 hours. It departs and returns to and from the property gate, at the Cassowary Falls property.

What’s included in the Cassowary Falls tour?

The tour takes approximately 2.5 hours. It includes:

  • Swimming and time at Cassowary Falls.
  • Driver / guided Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) and Army Truck rides, crossing creeks, streams and hills with amazing views.
  • Informative commentary on the rainforest, its flora and fauna.
  • Bush tucker and farm fruit tasting (seasonal).
  • Endless photo opportunities.

Do I need to drive on the tour?

No, the Cassowary Falls tour is fully hosted by a driver / guide on the Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) and Army Truck. You will not be required (or allowed) to operate these vehicles yourself. You will need to self-drive to our farm gate, which is where the tour starts. You do not need a 4WD to get here and there’s plenty of parking available.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, advance bookings are preferred. Please note our small group tours get busy at peak periods during school holidays, so book early to avoid disappointment and secure your preferred day and time.

Cassowary Falls is located on private property and can only be accessed through a pre-booked guided tour.

What should I bring on the tour?

For your comfort and enjoyment, we recommend bringing the following:

  • Swimmers and a towel.
  • Sunscreen and insect repellent.
  • Water shoes, thongs and/or crocs are handy for walking on rocks.
  • Drinking water and a hat are also recommended.
  • Your phone and/or a camera.
  • A change of clothes. You will get wet on the creek crossings on the way to Cassowary Falls.
  • Snorkelling gear is optional (but will allow you to clearly see and fish and turtles at Cassowary Falls).

Can I swim at Cassowary Falls?

Yes, swimming is one of the highlights of the tour. The natural pool beneath the waterfall is crystal clear, refreshing and safe for all ages. Water access is via a short walk over the rocks surrounding the pool, you can then walk into the water and swim out from the edge. Buoyancy noodles are available if required.

Is this tour suitable for children and/or families?

Yes, the Cassowary Falls tour is suitable for families and children are welcome. The tour is safe and fun for all ages, with minimal walking involved. Parental supervision is required around the water, and children will love the chance to swim with turtles and fish. Please note that babies and infants aged 0-4 years old are free when seated on an adult’s lap. Children aged 5-14 years old must be accompanied by an adult on tour.

Is this a guided tour or self-guided experience?

This is a fully guided experience. Our driver guides will drive you to the waterfall, share local insights and ensure your safety throughout the tour. It’s the only way to access and experience Cassowary Falls.

Are there toilets or facilities at the falls?

Please note there are no toilet facilities available during the tour. We recommend using the bathroom before arrival.

Will I see wildlife during the tour?

Yes, you will definitely see wildlife during a Cassowary Falls tour, including the fish and turtles at the waterfall. Other animals you might see include water dragons, eels, butterflies, birds, dragonflies and other insects. The area is rich in biodiversity and offers a great chance to spot native species in their natural habitat.

Guests who stay with us in our luxury chalets sometimes see Cassowaries, but we do not usually see them on tours.

Can I visit Cassowary Falls on my own without booking the tour?

No. Cassowary Falls is located on a private property and is not accessible to the public outside of the guided tour. This is due to personal safety and farm biosecurity risks. All visitors wanting to visit Cassowary Falls must book a tour.

Is Cassowary Falls suitable for people with limited mobility?

Yes, the Cassowary Falls tour is suitable for people with limited mobility. Please note that you will need to be able to enter and exit our Utility Terrain Vehicles and Army Truck, with some steps. There is some uneven ground at the waterfall with around a 15m / 17 yard walk required to get to and from the tour vehicles and the waterfall.

  • Cassowary Falls is a natural waterfall. There are rocks and natural obstacles present. These are easy to avoid. We are here to help you have a safe and enjoyable tour.

The 2.5 hour tours operate twice daily, with departures from the property gate at 10am and 1pm. Guests should arrive 10 minutes early to prepare for timely departure.

Yes, all transport required to operate the tour – on the Army Truck and Utility Terrain Vehicles – is provided and included in the tour price, as are the services of our driver / guides. We prioritise small group tours to maximise guest experience. Tours are typically limited to a maximum of 20 guests. This ensures a personal experience with plenty of space to enjoy the falls, take photos and ask questions along the way.

Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. What type of accommodation is available at Cassowary Falls?

Cassowary Falls has 3 self-contained chalets. Each chalet is designed for a luxury stay on our private property, with no shared walls or communal accommodation areas. The chalets are well spaced and positioned to maximise guest privacy. Each chalet has its own outdoor area and is surrounded by landscaping, creating a quiet and secluded environment.

What facilities are included in the chalets?

Each chalet is fully self-contained for a comfortable stay. Features include:

  • Fully stocked kitchen with all appliances, including full-sized fridge, dishwasher and microwave.
  • Pantry staples including oil, butter, local milk, orange juice and snack bar.
  • Bathroom with dual shower heads.
  • All linen, towels and bathrobes.
  • Private outdoor space and deck, with BBQ.
  • Private spa, with views across the valley.
  • Large retractable television screen with Foxtel Premium & Netflix.

Are the chalets fully self-contained?

Yes. The chalets are designed for independent stays and include cooking facilities, crockery, cutlery, a refrigerator and indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Is air conditioning available?

Yes. The chalets are air conditioned with ceiling fans, and also benefit from natural rainforest ventilation.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes, free Wi-Fi is available. Please note, due to the remote rainforest location, connection speeds may vary.

Is parking available at the chalets?

Yes. There is free on-site parking at each chalet. You do not need a 4WD vehicle to access the Gateways Cassowary Falls property or chalets.

Are meals provided?

Each of the chalets are self-contained for your convenience and pantry staples are included for your stay. Should you wish, Cassowary Falls does offer guests the option of a Cooked English Breakfast, which is in addition to the room rate. This hot breakfast is chef prepared fresh daily, with a focus on flavour and delicious decadence. It includes eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, tomato, cream mushrooms and toast. If booked, breakfast is delivered to your chalet door between 8.15am – 8.30am.

Guests should bring groceries with them for lunch and dinner, as shopping options in the Daintree are limited.

Where is the nearest restaurant?

Daintree Village is the closest hub for dining, with two options to choose from. The Julaymba Restaurant at the Daintree Ecolodge serves seasonal, organic cuisine with a focus on flavour and local produce. Think Daintree Barramundi or Duck Breast with Davidson Plum, served up in elegant rainforest surrounds. Dinner is served from 5.30pm to 9.30pm, last reservation at 8pm. Book ahead for this one. Or for more casual dining there’s the Daintree Village Hotel with hearty, affordable meals. They’re open until 7.30pm for dine-in and takeaway.

Where is the nearest shop?

The nearest major shop to purchase groceries is the Woolworths at Mossman. Please note this is a 40-minute one-way drive, so it’s best to purchase groceries and supplies on your way to Cassowary Falls. There is a bottle shop adjacent to Woolworths, for your convenience, with a selection of beers and wines.

Is the accommodation suitable for couples?

Yes. The chalets are particularly well suited to couples seeking a private rainforest retreat.

Can children stay in the chalets?

Sometimes children are welcome to stay in the chalets. This needs to be discussed with your hosts prior to booking. For more information on this, please call 0481 988 307 or email info@cassowaryfalls.com.au with your intended dates of stay and number and age of children.

Are pets allowed?

No. Pets are not permitted at Cassowary Falls. This is due to the presence of livestock on the property and our own pets.

Is smoking allowed?

Smoking is not permitted inside the chalets. Designated outdoor smoking areas are available. Please confirm at booking.

Are the chalets suitable for guests with limited mobility?

The chalets may not be suitable for all mobility levels due to stairs and natural terrain. Guests are encouraged to contact Cassowary Falls prior to booking to discuss individual needs.

Is housekeeping provided during the stay?

Chalets are serviced prior to arrival. Daily housekeeping is not provided during stays unless arranged in advance.

Can chalet guests join Cassowary Falls tours?

What outdoor spaces and experiences are available on the property?

Gateway Cassowary Falls is a mixed-use private property, combining the chalets, Cassowary Falls tours and 100 acres of pasture with cattle. There are walking tracks on the property. In addition to the private spa at each chalet, our property features an infinity pool with views over the valley and to Thorntons Peak. The pool is adjacent to our family home. Chalet guests are welcome to use this during daylight hours.

What wildlife might I see during my stay?

Chalet guests commonly see birds, butterflies, insects, water dragons and other native wildlife. Cassowary sightings are possible but not guaranteed.

What should I bring with me for my stay?

You should bring food, drinks, personal items, suitable clothing for warm and wet tropical conditions, insect repellent, and comfortable footwear.
