Swimming in the Daintree Rainforest is both safe and amazing when you join a Cassowary Falls tour. Not only will you be swimming in a refreshing pool of cool freshwater which comes straight from the rainforest, you can stand under the spray of the waterfall and really immerse yourself in the stunning natural beauty that defines the Daintree region. There are no crocodiles at Cassowary Falls, so you can put your mind at ease. What you will find is a healthy population of freshwater turtles and jungle perch. The waterfall is located on a private property and is only accessible on a guided adventure tour. There are 2 tours to choose from a 2.5 hour Cassowary Falls and Daintree Rainforest tour, or the full day Daintree Waters tour which includes return transfers from Port Douglas and a Daintree River cruise. Cassowary Falls is a 21-metre waterfall that cascades into a deep freshwater pool, surrounded by ferns and tropical rainforest. The falls flow constantly throughout the year, with larger volumes of water occurring over the summer months. Access to the falls is on guided tour, where the emphasis is on connection and experience. Numbers are kept to a maximum of 20 per tour, ensuring no crowds and no rush. Access to the water is easy, by walking or diving in. There are shallow sections on the banks, where you can sit in the water and watch the fish, and flotation devices are available for your comfort. The Cassowary Falls tours have over 200 5-star reviews with many guests saying it is ‘the best Daintree tour we’ve ever done!’. Swimming in the Daintree, never better than at Cassowary Falls.
The Daintree Rainforest is the world’s oldest continually surviving tropical rainforest, a relic from the Jurassic period. In addition to being a living time capsule for evolutionary plants, it’s also home to the descendants of prehistoric animals, including saltwater crocodiles. These apex predators are prominent throughout the Daintree region, with thriving populations in the Daintree River, mangroves, tidal estuary environments and beaches. They are dangerous. People have been killed and attacked, with the most recent incident recorded at Cape Tribulation in October 2025. So, it’s very important to understand Daintree water safety and where you can and can’t swim when visiting this region.
Cassowary Falls is one of the very few safe places you can go swimming in the Daintree Rainforest. There are no saltwater crocodiles here. Why is that you ask. There are many reasons, most notably it is the wrong habitat. Saltwater crocodiles prefer slow, warm, estuarine waters which are the exact opposite of Cassowary Falls’ cool, fast-flowing stream. Additionally, the falls sit inland and upstream from any crocodile habitat, with rocky terrain and natural barriers preventing access. There has never been a safety incident recorded at Cassowary Falls, which has no undertow, fast moving currents or flash flooding. A word from your hosts: “Cassowary Falls is crocodile free and a safe place to go swimming in the Daintree. We look forward to welcoming you here.”
The Cassowary Falls swimming hole is the safest place to go swimming in the Daintree. The falls tumble into a freshwater pool which is over 9-metres deep in the centre. The water temperature sits at around 25 degrees Celsius for most of the year (which is a few degrees warmer than Mossman Gorge). The Cassowary Falls tours consistently receive 5-star reviews. Standout moments include epic adventure rides on our utility terrain vehicles, charging up and down hills with the wind in your face and splashing (quite literally, you will get wet) through creeks and streams, with seasonal bush tucker and farm fruit tastings. Our rainforest guides do the driving and stop at key points to enrich your visit with information on rainforest plants and animals. Visiting and swimming at the Cassowary Falls waterfall is the icing on the cake.
Swimming in Daintree Waterfalls is a must do when exploring the Daintree Rainforest and we’ve got the best one right here at Cassowary Falls, the heart of the Daintree. This pristine paradise is home to turtles, fish, birds and butterflies, and is surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. The property is just a 6 minute or 4km drive from Daintree Village, around 90 minutes north of Cairns and 25 minutes from Mossman Gorge. Our Cassowary Falls Daintree Rainforest tours start at our property. You can self drive to the property (no 4WD needed) with plenty of on-site parking provided at the start of the tour. Please note you will get wet on this tour, so please bring a change of clothes and appropriate footwear (crocs and thongs are OK).
The best tour we've done hands down! Thanks to our guide Stella for sharing her wealth of knowledge and sense of fun, we learned so much and had such a good time exploring the rainforest, ecosystem, creeks, animals and falls. Felt like we were on a Jurassic Park adventure! Swimming in the Falls with turtles was magical. We loved it and left with an even deeper respect for this very special part of the world. Highly recommend, thanks Stella! 👌
We did the ATV tour to the waterfall and absolutely loved it! Bruce, Stella and Molly were amazing and knowledgeable guides and the drive to the waterfall was super fun and very scenic. The waterfall itself was just the icing on the cake! 10/10 would recommend.
Wow!! What an amazing tour. The property and the waterfall took our breath away. Our amazing guides Molly, Bruce, and Stella were so knowledgeable and made sure everyone had an unforgettable experience. Would absolutely recommend this tour. It is one of the best in the Daintree!!
We came for a hike and ended up on the best adventure ever. We thought we were in for a brutal trek through the Daintree… turns out it was ATVs, turtles, and an eel named Lucky. Bruce and Molly are legends—teaching us which plants won’t kill you and which might, before hitting up a waterfall swim straight out of a postcard. Best “hike” of my life. 10/10 would trade my walking boots for an ATV everytime. Can’t wait to come back and stay next time!
Did the Cassowary falls and ATV tour - what a time! Stella was super knowledgeable about the area, had us taste some wild fruits, swim with the fishes, and was overall a great guide. Would recommend to anyone.
We had the most amazing day with the Cassowary Falls team (Estella, Molly & Bruce). Cannot recommend highly enough - the perfect balance of fun, adrenaline, eco-tourism & education! Estella took care of us for the day and was SOOOO friendly and easy to talk to, we loved her. Chatted easily all day and her local knowledge of the area was amazing - she was smiling from pick up to drop off. She was so much fun - loved the relaxed vibe the guides had with each other. Bruce was such a proud local and it felt like such a privilege to have him share this incredibly unique part of the world with us. Thanks guys!!!! Loved it!!!
